The goal of MetCon is to train our bodies to create new energy pathways through a combination of strength training and cardiovascular exercise- essentially teaching our bodies to tap other energy sources (i.e. fat stores) in order to maintain a high level of performance. Our program focuses on functional movements and employs high intensity intervals training (H.I.I.T) to strengthen necessary muscle movements that are a part of our daily lives.
Each class typically consist of a strength portion to learn proper form and technique and then moves on to a conditioning segment to develop and grow our cardiovascular capacity. We end each class with a fast-paced circuit workout typically consisting of 2-5 exercises performed for a predetermined time or number of rounds/reps.
Dogtown is Oakland's first and only gym to offer MetCon as a standalone class. Our goal is to test our personal limits and work thresholds and ultimately set new ones. It is a fun, fast paced, super-charged class that will keep you burning calories well after the workout has ended.
We require beginners to MetCon to attend an On-Ramp training session that will help develop good and safe form. After this four session camp, our athletes can attend any of the numerous classes we have scheduled throughout the week.

At Dogtown Athletic our program extols the notion of constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity – exercise in the way the body was designed to move, as efficiently and effectively as possible to achieve the goal of complete fitness.
Our small group classes are led by a certified and experienced coaches, Each MetCon class lasts an hour, and includes a dynamic movement warm up, skill and strength and conditioning. We also offer private coaching, specialty coaching and programming for competitive athletes , endurance athletes, weightlifters, powerlifters, corporate and other special groups as well.
Dogtown Athletic is located on West Oakland / Emeryville border and minutes from several public transportation options the Eastbay has to offer. We are approximately five minutes from the West Oakland Bart station and 8 minutes from the MacArthur Bart station.
